Every generation needs hard good men. Not tough men, and not merely nice ones. There's nobody above us quietly sorting it out and nobody coming later to fix what we let slide.

Comfort is the thing to watch, because it never feels like a threat. It just makes everything optional. Skip the session, it's fine. Let the thing go, it's fine.

Do that long enough and you're a soft man, and soft men make hard times. Not through anything dramatic, just through a lot of small stuff nobody bothered with.

Which means it runs the other way too. Hard men make good times, and none of it is complicated.

Train properly. Keep your word when it costs you. Do the boring thing when there's nobody around to notice. That's most of it, honestly.

The other half matters just as much. Being hard isn't the point on its own. Plenty of hard men are just difficult, and that's not strength, it's a shorter fuse.

The point of building yourself is having something left over for other people. Being the one who shows up when it's inconvenient. Being safe to be around and not easy to move.

Christ is the whole picture. He turned over the tables and He washed their feet. Same man. Nothing soft about the kindness and nothing cruel about the strength, and you don't get to pick one and call it following Him.

Hard enough to carry weight, kind enough to be worth carrying it for.

Carry the gospel the same way. Say it when silence would be easier, and live it so people want what you're carrying. Not a lecture, because most blokes have had enough of those. Just being the sort of man someone notices and asks about, and having an honest answer ready when they do.

That's how it actually spreads. One bloke gets it, and he's steadier at work and better at home, and the men around him start wondering what changed. Good men come out of the gospel, not the other way round.

That's the job here. Put the gospel in front of people and back the organisations already doing the work. A share of what we make goes to Christian causes, and it always will.
